St. Wolstan's Community School

Well Read Award

28-November-18

Congratulations to Ms. Bennett , Library Co-Ordinator and her team of librarians Aoife Byrne, Aoife Curley, Saumya Kothiyal and Saoirse O’Connor who accompanied her to the Well Read Award ceremony which took place in the City West Hotel today, 27th November, 2018. St. Wolstan’s Community School was awarded the Well Read status, 2018-2021.

The PDST Well Read Initiative seeks to create a culture of reading in our schools in a creative and highly successful manner. Recognizing that reading is central to our young people’s personal and academic development, the Well Read Initiative involved all stakeholders who impact student learning, students, staff, parents, Board of Management and the wider community.

Presenting the Awards, Ciara O’Donnell, National Director of the PDST reminded us that not only things that are measured matter. Reading for pleasure is not quantifiable nor measurable, but so much more valuable. Literacy is not a hiding place but a finding place.

Well Done to all on our Well Read Award, 2018-2021.

“I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few of these as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.”

John Steinbeck.
